Paul McCarthy, a volunteer at Myplace Middlesbrough has been offered a part time youth work contract with Disc as a result of the experience he gained through volunteering. Paul, 21 from North Ormesby, gave his time up every Monday and Wednesday to support the Myplace Middlesbrough Youth Clubs whilst studying for his degree in Youth Work at Teesside University. His passion and commitment of supporting young people, as well as his experience with Myplace, made him the perfect candidate to apply for a part time contract with DISC. Paul was awarded the role as Employer Engagement Officer and incorporates his 21 hour a week contract around his university commitments. For 30 years DISC has been helping people and their communities in the North to deal with unemployment, poverty, crime, addiction, volunteer, homelessness and family breakdown. They believe that aspiration, hope and dreams provide the foundation for change. On his appointment, Paul McCarthy said: ‘Myplace Middlesbrough really opened my eyes to the opportunities to there to work with and support young people. It’s a fantastic facility to be involved with and it’s great that I’m still based there with DISC! I’m really looking forward to continuing the important work that DISC does and to having a positive impact in young people’s lives in Middlesbrough.” Myplace Middlesbrough would like to congratulate Paul on his new job and thank him for volunteering with us – we’ll miss you!
